TIFFIN, Raymond A

 

 

Born 31st December, 1914, at Dresden, Ont. Educated at Dresden Continuation School.  Raymond entered the banking business 16 Jul. 1934 at branches in Dresden and Barrie, ON.   Entered the service of the Canadian Bank of Commerce 16th July, 1934. Served at Dresden and Barrie, Ont.

Enlisted 20th August, 1940, from the latter branch in 28th Canadian Armoured Regiment. Lieutenant in October, 1942; Trained at Camp Borden, Ont.  Overseas in October, 1942 

The DT 15/04/43 reported that effective 9 April, 1943 Lieut. Raymond A. Tiffin had been promoted to the rank of ‘acting’ Captain in the 9th Canadian Armoured Corps. He landed in France 31/07/44 and was KIA in August 

Captain in January, 1944.  Landed in France 31st July, 1944. Posthumously MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES In recognition of Gallant and Distinguished Services (Canada Gazette, 3rd February, 1945

KIA: Killed in action August 9, 1944 in the Battle of Normandy north of Falaise  around Cean while with 4th Canadian Armoured Division. age 30 years

Captain Tiffin was awarded Posthumously a Mentioned In Dispatches in recognition of Gallant and Distinguished Service. (Canadian Gazette – 3 Feb. 1945

Tiffin, Raymond Albert – Captain. Born 31st December, 1914, at Dresden, Ont., the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bert Tiffin. The brother of Mrs. David Truesdale and Mrs. Frank McFadden.  

Prior to his enlistment he was keenly interested in baseball and other sports, playing any position on the diamond equally well 

The DT 24/08/44 reported that he was reported as missing in action.

 The DT 31/08/44(P) reported that Capt. Raymond Tiffin had been “Killed In Action” .
