Born 3/02/1918 the son of Herbert and Jane (Walker) Smith, of 95 Water St., Wallaceburg, Ontario. the brother of Herbert Jr. and Edward both at home. Charles was educated at D. A. Gordon Public School and attended Wallaceburg High School for two years.  He was employed at the Wallaceburg Brass Co. prior to enlisting.

Charles enlisted the 3rd of April, 1943 in Chatham with the 2nd Kent Regt. Appears on the “Muster Roll” of the 2nd Bn., Kent Regiment (MG), N.P.A.N. (date unknown).   

 Kent Regt. He trained at #12 BTC. Chatham, Windsor and Ipperwash, ON. before going overseas in October of 1943.

The WN 23/03/44 reported that Pte. Charles Smith was serving overseas on ‘active duty’.  

 Killed by a German sniper while serving with the Lincoln and Welland Regt. in Germany  Age: 27, KIA – Date of Death: 10/04/1945, in Germany near Groningen, during the crossing of the Rhine River.
