The son of Mrs. M. E. Smith. Married to Gertrude (nee Hohner), she resided in Chatham.

Enlisted in September of 1940 with the Essex Scottish.  For some time he was on the staff at No. 12 BTC., Chatham, ON. as well he served on the staff at Listowel and Ipperwash Camp before going overseas. His wife Gertrude (Hohner) was residing in Chatham. CDN 22/06/44. Served overseas in England for ten months.

The CDN 29/12/44 reported that Lieut. C. T. Smith was returning from overseas duty one of seventeen officers. He did not see combat but was very close to one of the V-1 ‘flying bombs’ while in England
