Unit # Essex Scottish Regt.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. William Shrenek of Jeanettes Creek, Kent Co., ON. He had five brothers and two sisters. He was well known in the Tilbury district. He worked on his fathers’ peppermint farm, while dad worked at the Canadian Top and Body in Tilbury.

Edward enlisted in the Essex Scottish at the age of twenty-two years shortly after mobilization and went overseas with the regiment. In letters home he “expressed the earnest desire to do his part that has been so prominent among members of the great battalion”.  He was listed with the MIA after the Dieppe raid. CDN 16/09/42
