Went overseas attached to the Irish Regiment and was promoted to Sergeant. The CDN 25/05/43 reported that Cpl. Ryan was on the staff of No. 12 BTC. He was leaving for Long Branch to take a five week course.

Served in England and Italy. Received the 1939-45 Star the Italian Campaign Star and the C.V.S.M. and clasp.
