The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Leonard and Violet Richards (Kirkland Lake), formerly of Tilbury, ON. He was stationed at the RCAF Manning Pool in Toronto, ON. TT 16/07/41.

In October of 1942 Robert now Sgt.(Pilot) was stationed at RCAF Fingal, ON at the Bombing & Gunnery School CDN 15/10/42 when he was granted leave to attend the funeral of Sgt.(O). Douglas Gordon-Kay who had been killed in a flying accident. TT 26/11/42. He was also granted leave in December of 1942 to visit his cousin Bill Lumley. TT 31/12/42.

In 1943 Robert was reported serving overseas with #426 Thunderbird Sqd., flying in Wellington bomber BK 165 reported missing during night operations to Lorient, France. F/O’s G. Milne, G. A. McQuillin, R. C. Richards, Sgt.s J. A. Pollock and A. R. Maddison (RAF) were KIA.

Age 21 years. KIA 14 January, 1943,

There is no known grave for any of the aircrew.
