The son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Piper of Windsor, ON.  Of 153 Wellington St. W., Chatham, ON. Married.  

Leon enlisted in the RCAF in March of 1941.

Leon and wife along with a Mrs. J. Norris returned to Chatham after a tour of North Bay, Callander and Midland, ON.  In September of 1942. LAC Piper then returned to his duties at RCAF Hagersville, ON. CDN 15/09/42.  He also trained at Trenton and Haggersville.

The CDN 20/03/43 reported LAC Piper and his wife returned to Chatham after spending a few days with relatives in Windsor. He was leaving for the east coast where he took up new duties.  The CDN 30/04/43 reported that Leon had been in the taxi business in Chatham prior to his enlistment in the RCAF. He was reported to have arrived overseas confirmed by his wife from a cable received at her home.

He proceeded overseas March 1943 and was in different parts of England until June 1944. The He then moved to France, and then into Holland.

Reported arriving at Halifax, NS. aboard the S. S. “Nieu Amsterdam”, 9 Sept., 1945. Expected to arrive at Lachine, PQ on the 11th for leave to return to their homes. CDN 10/09/45. Arrived home 11 Sep. 1945. CDN11/09/45(P).
