Regimental number: 811309. Reference: RG150 1992-93 Box 7563 – 62, Item: 566386, PDF B:7563-S062.  Born 10/12/1879 at Tilbury, ON. The son of Napoleon and Olivine (nee Lanthier) of Tilbury; brother of Napoleon, Joseph Eliza (St. Denis), Amanda and Osaline.  He also had two step-brothers Vernon and Fred and two step-sisters Josephine (Blain) and Clara (Ouellette). Prior to the war he was working as a single farmer age 36 years home-steading in the west at Villenuve, Alberta.  His Next of Kin: Napoleon Paquette (father) of Tilbury, ON.   Lemme enlisted Attestation: 11/12/1915 at Edmonton, AB. With the 233rd Bn. 

Apparent Age: 36 yrs. Height: 5’ 6 ½ “, Girth: 38” Complexion: Medium, Eyes: Brown, Hair: Dark. Medical 11/12/15 at Edmonton, Alberta. To 178th Bn.

He trained for two years, transferred from 138th to the 233rd Bn. Paid from 7/05/16 to January 1917. He was reported AWL. 12/12/16. December 1915 to May 1916 and forfeited 3 days pay AWL. Pte. Paquette was in the 233 Bn. when he was admitted to the General Hospital in Edmonton. Admitted 10/05/16 with an “Infected Arm”Admitted 10/05/16 and discharged 15/05/16 to duty.

In Canada before going overseas where he trained for another six months in England before going to France, 28 February of 1918.  His WILL was to his sister Emmira Paquette.

He embarked for England 3/03/17 with the 150th overseas Battalion. Disembarked 15/03/18. He was then TOS with the 178th Batt. at Shoreham and transferred overseas to France to the 14th Batt. CEF.

Tilburyite Killed in Action

Lemme Paquette, “Official word was received here that Private Lemme Paquette was killed in action in last weeks fighting in France. Deceased who enlisted with the 70th Battalion was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Napoleon Paquette of this place.

While coming out of a dug-out with three comrades, he was killed during an air-raid KIA 31/03/18 Pte. Lemme PAQUETTE is buried in Cararet – Rouge British  Cemetery in France.

Mrs. Emmerte Paquette of Tilbury received the Memorial Cross 7/06/1920. Napoleon Paquette received the Memorial Scroll 18/06/21 and the Memorial Plaque 8/04/22.

News Clipping from “The Windsor Record”: An official dispatch was received here today (unknown) announcing the death of Pte. Remi Paquette., who was KIA in France on the 31 March, 1918. The young soldier was the son of Mr. and Mrs Napoleon Paquette, of Cathcart St. He went West five or six years ago end enlisted in the Alberta regiment soon after the outbreak of war.
