Date of Birth 13/04/1891 at Dornock, ON. The son of Robert and Ann Smith Mills. Next of Kin was a sister Maria in St. Thomas, ON. A memebr of the 21st Regt. At the time of his enlistment his address was listed as the 70th O.S. Bn. CEF. He enlisted 30 March, 1916 at London, ON.,the 17th Batt after completing a course of special training at London, ON.

According to a news paper article at the Tilbury and District Historical Society (the date and the paper are not identified) entitled “German Bullet Kills Tilbury Lieutenant” identifies the officer as “Lieut. “Jack” Mills, a well-known Tilbury East boy and a former member of the Twenty-first Regiment, Windsor, was killed in France, two days after he entered the trenches.”

Mills who was twenty-five years old, and employee of the Ford motor Co., in Ford City. After his enlistment he train in London, ON. before going overseas. Once in England it reports that he transferred to the 14th Batt. of Montreal. He left for France 13 June. “It is believed he had been in the firing line but two days when he was hit by a stray bullet, probably from a snipers rifle”.
