Unit # RCAF

Born and raised in Chatham, ON. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Than Merritt, Dover Twsp., Kent Co. The brother of Shirley (Spurgeon) and Ward. The husband of Marguerite Phyllis (Blonde), they had four children; Marvin, Judy (Chambers), Nancy (Mardling) and Les. Glen served in the RCAF during WWII. Enlisting 1940 Glenn had been training for 23 months in Toronto and Quebec when he was transferred to Gander, Newfoundland (technically overseas) when he was grated a furlough to visit his family. CDN 22/08/42(P).

In September of 1944 LAC Glenn Nathaniel (then stationed at RCAF-Toronto) Merritt married Marguerite Phyllis Blonde at Blessed Sacrament church. A wedding breakfast was held at the bride’s home.

After the war he was the honourary member of the Chatham Yacht Racing Club. Glen passed away Thursday, 12 March, 2009 at the age of 89. Interment in St. Thomas Anglican Church Cemetery.
