William served overseas from 1919 to 1945 in England, France, Africa, Italy, Belguim and Holland. Saw action at the Hiter Line, Gothic Line and Gustav Line. Bill was reported being wounded 19/09/44 while serving in Italy.

After the war he served as a Lieutenant with the Kent Regt. in Chatham, ON. He served as RSM of the Essex & Kent Armouries. He was the president of the Rod & Gun Club. Bill was also the owner and operator of Ryan & McNear Variety and Gas Station where he was known as the “Candy Man” to the local youth.

William passed away 15/05/2009 at Riverview Gardens, Chatham, ON. at the age of 87 years.
