Date of Birth: 09/11/1893 at Dover Twsp., Kent Co., ON. Daughter of  William C. and Ella McKnight of R. R. # 5 Chatham, ON., sister of Grace. A Graduate Nurse. Nurse McKnight was living at 652 Piccadilly St., London. Her other address was in Chatham, ON. at R. R. #5.  Attestation: 10/08/1918 age 25 years, at London, ON. to CAMC. 

According to her biography from the IODE Books of Remembrance, Nursing Sister McKnight volunteered for overseas service in August 1914. she might have been considered too young for overseas assignment in 1914 or lacked practical nursing experience at the time. Being called January 17th, 1918. She was stationed at Queen Alexandria Sanitarium, Bryon, which was for TB cases returning from overseas.

Examined 10/08/18 at London, ON. 5’ 1 ½”, Weight 150 lbs. – after 136 lbs. Physical – good, Vision 20/20, Hearing: Good.  

Officially TOS, 17/01/1918 in London, ON. She enlisted with the 3rd Depot, CAMC, Beatrice was assigned to Queen Alexandria Sanitarium in Byron, ON. which was for TB cases returning from overseas. CDP 22/04/18.

26 August, 1918 NS. McKnight was transferred overseas from London, ON. to England. On 21/09/18 she was taken on strength from Canada to Shorncliffe and joined the R&T Depot. She was struck off to No.76 Cdn. Gen. Hospital in Shorncliffe Orpington – Training 4/10/18. 

On 27 November 1918 she was a patient in the 16th General Canadian Hospital in Opington for influenza. She coughed for three day, headache and a fever of 102F. She was discharged on 10/12/19. She was granted a Imperial “Gratuity” 18/09/1925 for services. She had a ‘Seperation Allowance: Messing Allowance of #25.00, WSG on Boat: $90.00, 18/09 to 30/09/19 of $39.00.

Around September of 1919 she embarked  back to Canada and was TOS in Canada 21/09/19 – General Demob.1/10/19 TOS in Canada by the CEF in Canada.

Nurse McKnight was TOS due to general demobilization from CEF on 1 Dec. 1919. “Served in Canada and England with the CAMC. No. 15 Cdn. General Hospital and District Depot No. 1” 

Demobilization: 17/09/19.  Date of Discharge : 26/01/1920.
