Age: 18 yrs. 2 mths., Height: 5’ 10”, Girth: 35”, Complexion: Cline, Eyes: Blue, Hair: Black, Weight: 147 #,  Medical: 23,1916 “Fit”.    

Hugh was a single clerk living in Bothwell prior to enlistment. Attestation: 1/03/1916 at Chatham, ON. to the 186th Bn. In June of 1916 Hugh was at home in Bothwell owing to “weakness of the eyes” as repoted in the Bothwell Times of 29/06/16.   

Celebrations must have been important to Earl as he, along with E. Buckenham, E. Crompton, Fred Clarke and J. McRoberts attended a New Years celebration in Chatham ringing in 1917.  BT 4/01/17.  

While at Camp Borden it was discovered Myopia and was transferred to the Base Hospital, Toronto. 31/08/16 to 4/09/17.   

He left Canada by way of Halifax aboard the S.S. Lapland 28/03/17 Arrived in England at Liverpool 7/04/17. TOS at Segregation Camp – Bramshott 7/04.17 Transferred to 4th Cdn. Bn. 10/12/17. Hugh was admitted to hospital for a “sore Throat” 5.05/16 he was discharged 9/05/16. He proceeded ovewrseas to France. 9/12/17. Left for his unit 31/12/17. Wounded in Field 30/04/18 

1st. Bn. Cdn. Army Theatre – France – date of service 8/12/17 

He suffered a GSW to the Abdomen 24/04/18, taken to 7th CCS and DOW 25/04/18

His mother, Annie Nash received the Memorial Cross 30/07/20 ; the Memorial Schroll 17/12/26 and the Memorial Plaque 20/04/22. His mother was listed on his Will but was not granted any sum. War Service Gratuity – 1st Bn. overseas was not Eligible.
