Of Bothwell. Born 5/04/1919 in Euphemia, Twsp.

John began his basic training at BTC. #12 at Chatham, ON. He then was transferred to Halifax for advanced training with the Royal Canadian Artillery. He was transferred on 1/07/42 to Newfoundland (an overseas posting then) and spent nineteen months on ‘the Rock’ doing “Costal Defence” duty as a light anti-aircraft gunner.

He returned to Bedford, NS. in December of 1943. In February of 1944 he was transferred back to BTC. #12 for a month of basic infantry training. The next six months were spent at Camp Ipperwash for Advanced Infantry Training before going to England.

John now with the Canadian Highland Light Infantry disembarked on 30/04/44 serving in England and North-West Europe as a Private. On 25/03/45 he received a sever shrapnel wound to his right arm, foot and right leg. This most likely happened near Speldrop, Germany when the 51st Highland Division of the British 2nd Army had launched an attack the previous evening. John was invalided home due to his injuries and formerly discharged 14/02/46 with the rank of L/Cpl.

He spent most of his life in Bothwell.
