Born 31/12/1925 at Wallaceburg, the son of Meddie and Loretta (Christian) King, living at 38 Park St., Wallaceburg, Ontario.  Prior to his enlistment he was working at the Schultz Die Casting in Wallaceburg.  He was living at 28 Park St., Wallaceburg.  The brother of Patrick at home, and he had two sisters, Mrs.  Bernard Starr of Wallaceburg, and Doris at home. He attended Our Lady of Help and D. A. Gordon School.  Prior to his enlistment, he was employed at the Schultz factory. WN 8/02/45

Kalmon enlisted in the RCNVR in Windsor, HMCS Hunter in July of 1943. He trained in Windsor, ON. HMCS Cornwallis, Stadacona, NS. and Gireenchy. He was serving on the armed merchant ship S.S. Park and was one of three naval ratings D.E.M.S. (Defensively-Equipped-Merchant-Ship). The Allied’s Merchant ships were defensively armed. In addition to their merchant seamen volunteer gunners, DEMS sailed on these ships. He had served in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Ocean.  While aboard the S. S. Dunlop Park, Kalmon became ill in the vicinity of SE Africa; three crewmen became ill, one had Malaria, one had Thyfoid Fever and Able Seaman King came down with acute appendicitis. His death was caused by peritonitis due to a ruptured appendix.  He had been at sea about a year.

Age: 19, DOD/LAS – Date of Death: 26/01/1945,. He was buried at sea approximately 1000 miles East north East of Rio De Janeiro.
