A farewell letter was also included:

Tupperville, Feb. 20th 1941

Pte. Wm. Hoyle

Dear Will :

We, a few of your relatives and friends have gathered to spend a special evening. Here you return to duty: to honour to one of our boys who has volunteered to fight for his country’s welfare. Words are only a mere sentiment of the deep gratitude and thankfulness we personally owe to you and all our boys who are fighting so gallantry to save their and our country’s honour, duty, freedom and peace. Wherever duty calls you on the home front, coast, or overseas we hope and pray you will be spared to return home soon to celebrate with us a glorious victory and know that you have done your bit.

At this time we wish you to accept this gift as a token of past and future remembrance of your friends who are gathered here this evening, all wishing you the best in life until we meet again.

Signed on behalf of your

Friends and Relatives.

Medically Unfit.

Discharged 1941.
