Regimental number: 189776 Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 4520 – 34, Item: 470519, PDF: B4520 – S034. Date of Birth 30/05/1885 or 8/05/1893 at Ostend, Belgium. Son of Sophia and John Twissleman of Ostend, Belgium. A single labourer living in Wallaceburg, ON.

Attestation: 3/01/1916 at St. Thomas, ON. to 91st Bn. Found on Nominal Roll of the 186th Bn aboard S. S. Lapland 25/03/1917. Arrived in England 7/04/17.  

Reported for service in France 17/06/17 transferred to the 18th Batt 

Reported to have been severely gassed and for three months could not speak, was also suffering from trench fever, reported returned from O/S duty in November of 1918, in “No Return Ticket” by A. Mann.

According to his military file Albert was recovered by #5 Cdn. Field Ambulance 22/12/17, transferred to #12 Cdn. Field Ambulance 24/12/17. Cared for at #22 Gas learing Station1/01/18 where he stayed until being transferred to 18 Casualty Clearing Station 3/01/18. From there he was sent to 83 General Hospital, – Boulgone, France 6/01/18. He would be transferred to England to the Royal Herbert Hospital at Woolrich on 11/01/18. Albert was then removed to the Convalescent Hospital – Woodcote Park – Epson 26/02/18 

After a period of convalescents it was determined that he would be returned to Canada and arrived at Quebec aboard the S. S. Cardiganshire 7/10/18.

It was determined that Albert was “Medically Unfit” for future service. He was granted leave with pay and for a time he was staying with Weir Harper in Tupperville, ON. His ‘Medical Board’ reported that he was all but deaf in his left ear and suffered from “Trench Shins” in both legs. He was discharged from service 12/11/18 at No.1 Discharge Depot, London ON. 12/11/18. The last address for Albert’s parents John and Sophia was 49 Prince Albertlaan, Ostend, Belgium.  For some time Albert was listed as living at 88 Jane Ave., Detroit, Michigan.

The WN reported that Albert passed away 3 February, 1937 due to complications of being gassed during the war
