Enlisted in the U.S.A. Hicks had been stationed at Omaha, Nebraska. It was reported in the CDN 22/10/42 that he had been transferred to Fort Riley, Kansas. He was there until August 10th, 1943. Served overseas in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. Promoted to the rank of Major in 1945. Won the Naples, Foggia, Rome and Arno Battle Stars. Also the Southern France and Rhineland Ribbons.

Discharged March 1st, 1946.
