Regimental number: 844592 Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 4324 – 51, Item: 469739 Date of Birth 08/09/1880 at Lark Hill, Bath, Somersetshire, England. N of K: Mrs. Abraham Webster (friend) of R. R. # 1 Croton, ON. A single painter living at R. R. # 4 Dresden, Kent Co. ON. Member of 24th Kent Regt.for three months Attestation 12/02/1916 age 35 years old, at Florence, ON. to 149th Railway Const & Forestry. Bn. He was reported suffering from Tonsilitis from 20/11/16 to 28/11/16. According to Allan Miller he “trained in Watford with the 149th which had four companies. In February he was at Queen’s Park, London, ON. (now the Western Fair Grounds). Due to his flat feet and varicose veins he failed to qualify for the infantry.”

Henry embarked for England at Montreal, PQ abard the S. S. Megantic 1/09/17 with the Railway & Forestry Corp, arriving in UK  15/02/18. While he was serving in France he was treated foe a Hernia while serving with No.4 Forestry 28/09/17. He served 16 months in France. His military file indicates that he received a “Good Conduct Badge” 12/02/1918.

Reported return from O/S duty with 47th Bn. It may have been that he returned to Canada aboard a ship returning the 47th Battalion which was from British Columbia. Henry was discharged 21/03/1919 as “Medically Unfit”. He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

Henry’s military file at LAC gies a date of death as 20 December, 1951 [location not listed].

Allen thinks that he may have been a ‘Home Boy’ a report in his military file indicates that he saw service in the South African War.
