Henry Robert Lloyd

 

Robert completed twenty missions.

Son of Robert Colin and Helen Amelia Henry, of Turnerville, Ontario, Canada. He was a clarinet player in the Chatham, Kiltie Band before joining the RCAF. LAC Henry was reported returning to RCAF Lachine, PQ. after a two week leave at his parents home in Eberts, ON.

P/O Henry was reported on a two week leave in August of 1942 at his parents, before shipping out overseas. Robert received his wings at Hagersville 17/07/42 and was reported overseas in the CDN 26/09/42(P).  Roberts’ parents and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Henry attended the ‘wings’ parade.CDN 23/07/42 Robert was reported overseas in the CDN 26/09/42(P).  Robert received his wings at Hagersville 17/07/42, Roberts’ parents and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Henry attended the ‘wings’ parade.CDN 23/07/42 Robert was reported overseas in the CDN 26/09/42(P).

Age: 23, DOAA – Date of Death: 29/08/1943.  

Flying a Oxford aircraft # DF 471 transferring personnel and equipment to Ford, Sussex the pilot encountered bad visibility and crashed into the hills near the village of Sedburg, Westmorland, England. P/O Henry’s body was found 600 yards from the wrecked aircraft he died while going for help. Three others died in the crash. The CDN 4/09/43 (P) reported that his funeral took place 2 /09/43.
