Appears on the “Muster Roll” of the 2nd Bn., Kent Regiment, (MG), N.P.A.N. (date unknown), service number A470431. He later transferred to the Perth Regt. Service No: A/103140. Regiment/Service: Perth Regiment, R.C.I.C. C-Coy. Son of George and Ellen Hardy, of Chatham, Ontario, Canada; husband of Marjorie Aileen Hardy, of Chatham, Ontario,  35 Kirk St. of Chatham, Ontario with her little son Morley. 

Age: 25, KIA –  Date of Death: 21/04/1944, in Italy.

Fred attended Central School. He was employed at the American Pad & Textile Company on Queen’s St. In May of 1942 along with his twin brother Harry they enlisted with the 33rd Reconnaissance Regt. He trained in London, Kitchener and at Camp Borden 

Pte. Hardy went overseas in December of 1942, the following December he went to Italy. He was involved in heavy fighting. A letter received by his mother dated 3 April tells of being transferred to a ‘rest camp’. It turned out that he was back in the the front lines for only a few days before he was killed. CDN 1/05/44

Fred had three brothers in active service: LAC George in the RCAF at Brandon, MB, Pte. Jack with the US. Army at Fort Riley, Kansas and Bombardier Harry in Nova Scotia. He had two brother’s-in-law also on active service: Fred Carson and Arthur Watson, both stationed on east coast serving in the RCNVR.
