Regimental number: 880646. Reference: RG, 150 Accession 1992-93/166, Box 3630-9, ITEM: 421807. Date of Birth: 31/07/1882 at Leeds, Yorkshire, England. The son of William Frederick and Elizabeth (nee Digby – Porter ) then living at 78 Main St., Hamilton, ON. The husband of Amy, they married at St. Mark’s Church at Hamilton, ON. 12/05/1908 The father of Phyllis (8), Marion (7) and Edward (5). The family was living at 99 Elizabeth St., Chatham, ON. Prior to his enlistment he was employed as a Salesman / Buyer.

Arthur enlisted 10/04/1916 at Chatham, ON. to the 186th Regt. for overseas. Private Arthur E. Goodman served in “A” Company of the 186th Battalion until this unit moved to Camp Borden, when he was left in Chatham as one of the recruiting squad. He joined the Battalion in September being attached to the stretcher bearer section. He was ill in Hospital when the Battalion went overseas  and he transferred to the Canadian Army Medical Corps, leaving with a draft for England April 26th, 1917. He was stationed at Westenhanger until the following August when he transferred to Risiboro Barracks, Shorncliffe, the Canadian Army Medical Corps Depot, employed on the permanent staff.   At the time he was 33 yrs. 9 months and 5’ 3”. He was hospitalized at the London Military Hospital for constipation and after treatment he was X-rayed and discharged.

Embarked at Halifax 30/04/17 and Disembarked at Liverpool 14/05/17. He served in England and aboard H.M.A.T. Neuralia and H.N.A.T. Essequibo with the CAMC. He received the Good Conduct badge at Shorncliff Camp, England.  

His Discharge Certificate is dated: 18/01/1919 at London, ON.
