Date of Birth, April 15th, 1898 in Dover Twsp., Kent County. The son of Thomas Galloway of 56 Degge St., Chatham, ON. The husband of Hazel (nee Little), they were living at 14 Hyslop St., Chatham, ON. They had nine children Margaret, Keith (2003), Vera, Ray (2012) Roy, Stella, Florence, Mary, Elizabet and Diana.  Next of Kin:  Megan Mary Galloway.  Military Experience:  Served in W.W.1, 186th War Service Badge PL1015559.

William grew up on a farm in Dover Twsp. but left that farm when he was eleven years old. “he didn’t like the conditions at home”, and was taken in by another family and worked on their farm” said his daughter Mary Megan. CTW 16/11/17. Following the Great War he lived on a farm on Highway 3, but he and his wife lost their farm during the Depression. They borrowed $500 from the bank, they had a bad crop and lost that. That was when they moved to Chatham. 

Glenn had served in the Great War (880738) with the 186th and 18th Bn. At the time of his enlistment in WWII they were living at 14 Hyslop St. in Chatham. He enlisted with the Veteran Guard in June of 1940 serving at New Sarum, near St. Thomas as a security guard until 29/03/1947. The Veteran Guard was formed early in WWII as a defense force in case of a German attack on Canada.

Due to poor health from the Great War he spent a lot of time at Parkwood Hospital in London, ON. His wife usually took one of the children with to visit with their father. He was eventually released and took up a position as a security guard and suffered a heart attack on the job.

As was common with returned soldiers Mary Magen said in the article “He never talked about it.”

Mother received Memorial Cross GRV.

Glenn passed away 22 December, 1949, his wife Hazel passed away 21 Dec. 1984
