Beverley served aboard the HMCS Port Arthur (K233) a Flower Class Corvette. The only trip the Port Arthur made into the Mediterranean Sea accused in January of 1943 and on 19/01/43 she attacked and sank the Italian submarine “Tritone” while crusing off Bougie, Algeria. The HMCS Port Arthur rammed and sank the Italian sub while protecting a convoy. Ramming a sub while in convoy is considered an expert feat and one which members of any crew might well be proud. OS Beverley French was a crewman aboard the Corvette.

From April 1944 to July, HMCS Port Arthur was assigned to convey duty to the support the invasion of Normandy. After that she joined the Portsmouth Command in September of 1944 to patrol for submarines in the English Channel. Port Arthur returned to Halifax in February of 1945 for a refit bit that was never completed as the war ended in May. Her ships company was ‘paid off’ in July. K233 HMCS Port Arthure was broken up at Hamilton, Ontrario in 1948 for scrap.

Beverley passed away 18 October, 2012.
