Walter was educated at S. S. 17, Chatham and at Queen Mary School. He had an older brother Pte. Alfred, who was convalescing from a back injury while fighting in France while serving with the RCOC. He also had a younger brother. 

Pte. Feuz enlisted with the First Kents in 1940 and trained with them until he went overseas in September of 1942 when he transferred to the Essex Scottish Regt.

Served with the Kents in Halifax, New Westminster. Transferred to the Essex Scottish Regiment and went overseas. Served in England, France and Belgium. Was seriously wounded with small fragments which necessitated the amputation of his right leg. Was hospitalized in Holland England and London, Canada.

He saw action in France in July and on 5 October he suffered sever wounds while in action in Belgium. He would be transported to a Canadian hospital in England.  Walter was transferred to England with reinforcements. CDN 29/12/42(P).

The CDN 13/10/44 reported that Pte. Feuz had been seriously wounded in France and was dangerously ill. The 22 year old soldier of the Essex Scottish, suffered a severe shell fragment wound which necessitated the amputation of his right leg at the knee. 

The CDN 13/01/45 reported Pte Feuz was home after hard fighting in France, Belgium and Holland. Fred was wounded in October in Belgium. He had been overseas for two and a half years. He saw action with the Essex Scottish in France and Belgium.  During the fighting for Antwerp he was moving up the lines when he received seriously about his head, arms and legs from a German mine. His wounds were so severe that is became necessary to amputate his right leg above the knee

Pte Feuz had high praise for the work of the Red Cross. “When you get into the thick of it, you see that they are really on the job and work with great efficiency and kindness. They are a hard working group and deserve much credit.”
