Rank Flight Lieutenant
Unit # R.C.A.F.

Of 70 Centre St., Chatham ON.  The CDN 27/11/45 reported that Flt. Lieut F. F. Edmondson had received a “substantial cheque” from the Department of National Defence for the invention that he turned over to the inventions board in 1942. Beside the cheque he received a letter of commendation from the Aeronautical Division “which is the equivalent of an award for gallantry in combat signed by Air Vice Marshal Steadman.

The invention was an adaption to the ‘LINK’ trainers, which were used to train cadet pilots before they make their solo flights. Untrained pilots often forgot that their air craft had retractable under-carriage and they had to put it down before landing.

Edmondson’s invention was responsible for the saving of numerous lives, in that it reduced to a minimum the danger of a pilot overlooking a necessary operation in the operation of a plane prior to landing.

At the time he introduced his invention Fares received a promotion in rank and a letter of commendation and finally a cash reward. At the time of his introduction of his device, for security reason nothing could be said of it.
