Prior to his enlistment he was employed by the Cornhill and Sons Ltd. and the Dominion Stores.

A former member of the First Kent Regt. enlisting July,1940. CDN Aug. 44 He had been overseas for 18 months.

The following letter came from his platoon commander

France, Aug. 11, 1944

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Dozois,

You have no doubt by this time been advised of the grave news of your son’s death.

Johnnie came to my platoon about one year ago, along with several other chaps from the Kent Regiment. He immediately made numerous friends throughout the platoon and the battalion. He was considered one of the best truck drivers in the battalion, and always in the vehicle inspection  back in England he invariably won highest marks for his vehicle maintenance and cleanliness.

We share with you this tragic loss, because he always did a marvelous job, and will be very hard to replace. I brought Johnnie over here to France and was about 100 yards from him when he was killed. He died instantly resulting from shrapnel from a heavy German shell.

During these tragic times many of our brave young Canadians are called upon to pay the supreme, but we all pray that this awful war will be brought to a victorious and hurried end.

May I convey to you on behalf of my platoon our sincere sympathies at this time

Yours sincerely,

Lieut. B. F. Kearns,

H.L.I. of C. C.A/O.
