Enlisting early in the war when principle of Merritton Colegiate Institute. Went overseas serving in Yorkshire, England, France and Germany with the Rehabilitation Division. He also served on the staff of RCAF schools at Oshawa and Deseronto and Toronto. While in France he took a special course at the Sorbonne, after which he was reported returning to Canada aboard the liner Ille de France, returning to rejoin his wife and young son David in Oshawa.
