Born 23/03/1919 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The son of Percy and Inez Day of 36 Edgar St., Chatham, ON.  The brother of Ross and Doug, Norma and Vellell. The husband of Dorothy (nee Davies).

Bert enlisted 15/08/1940 at Chatham, ON., age 21 years with the Kent Regt. After basic training with the Kent Regt. at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Halifax, NS. and in British Columbia Bert transferred to the Essex Scottish following the murderous raid on Dieppe in August of 1942, as a member of the support Company (carrier and mortar platoon).

He married Dorothy (nee Davies) in London, (Fulham) England 29 April, 1944. Bert returned to Canada and was demobilized 20/09/1945. He returned to Chatham, ON., working at the Brewer’s Retail until retiring. They had one son Ken.

Bert was promoted Sergeant and the regiment moved to Normandy in July of 1944, then across Northern France into Belgium, the Netherlands and finally Germany.

Herbert Ronald ‘Bert’ Day passed away 15 June, 1990.  Buried at Maple Leaf Cemetery – Chatham, ON.
