Born 18/02/1880 at Hitchine, England.  N of K: Jabis Darton RNS. of Bridgeburg, ON. Address – Ridgetown Also notify Mrs. Alex Silver, Box 78, Palmyra, Kent Co., ON. His last address prior to leaving for England was R.R. #1 Murkirk, Kent Co., ON. Occupation labourer. Married, Willing to have vaccination – Yes. Attestation: 23/09/15 at Chatham, ON. to 70th Battalion.

Age 35 years. Height: 5’ 8”, Girth: 38”, Complexion unknown,  Eyes: Blue, Hair: Brown. Medical “Fit” 23/09/15. Noted three scars left groin.

Jack departed for England 24/0416 and arrived 5/05/16 from the S.S. Lapland. He was transferred to the 5th CMR. He landed in France 4/06/16.

Served  in France with the Canadian Railway Troops. 29/09/16  He was partially buried by a shell explosion and lost some of his hearing in his left ear. Jack was wounded in action in October 1916, GSW to the right shoulder Slt. – Exatta Pre entry Com. (Fracture Phal to right hand). Admitted to General Military Hospital – Colchester, England 4/10/16.     

He was partially buried by a shell explosion and lost some of his hearing in his left ear. 4/10/16. There was a period of recouperation in Middlesex, Napsbury, 26/10/16 C.C.H. Woodcote Park, Epson, Mil. Hosp.  14/11/16 was discharged 11/09/18.

” In September 1916 he first noticed something was wrong with his left ear. He was partly buried by a shell exploded on at this time and since, then he has had a discharge, He said he never knew that there was anything wrong with his ears  before.”   Since then he has had trouble with moderate pain in his shoulder in wet weather.  

After healing as well as could be expected, his arm and hand had limited use and he was given a discharge as medically unfit for duty. He sailed for Canada 7/12/18, Posted to Cas. Company   arriving in Halifax, NS. aboard the S.S.Olympic  14/12/18. After his discharge his address was Ridgetown, ON where he lived until his death 29 November, 1958. At that time his next of kin was listed as Lillian Hall.

After returning he had a a problem with Chronic Catsrrhal otits meda (left side and arm. Also Myalgia of muscles of his left shoulder. Treatment at London, ON. 7/01/1919.  

11/01/19 John was Discharged from HMS. MEDICALLY Unfit. He was slightly deaf in left ear – a history of Chronic Catarrhal, O. M.

 After his discharge his address was Ridgetown, ON where he lived until his death 29 November, 1958. At that time his next of kin was listed as Lillian Hall as next of Kin.   

John ‘Jack’ DARTON passed away 29/11/1958.
