Robert Edward Crewe

 

From Wheatley, Kent Co., ON. Born 29/02/1920, the son of Milton and Rosie May Crewe, of Leamington, Ontario, Canada.

Date of Death: 27/09/1943, flying a Spitfire # BM 152 on Air Ops. France was shot down at St. Riguier les Plains, Fecamp during attacks against airfield at Conches.

Robert had graduated from RCAF Uplands in 1942.

Age: 23, KIA – Date of Death: 27/09/1943, flying a Spitfire Mark V, # BM 152 on Air Ops. France was shot down at St. Riguier les Plains, Fecamp whilst doing close escort work to bombers over France, during attacks against airfield at Conches. A French farmer told the family that he saw Bob bail out but his chute got caught on the tail. He got it untangled but was close to the ground. Upon landing he tried to get up and walk, but broken most of the bones in his body. He succumbed to his injuries.    He was first buried at Streguere and later exhumed and reburied in France.

Cemetery: GRANDCOURT WAR CEMETERY.
