Whitney attended school in Blenheim, ON. before enlisting in Windsor with the Essex Scottish. He went over seas on 5 August, 1940.  

Prior to enlistment Cpl. Coulter had engaged in twenty fights as a professional boxer in Ontario and Michigan.

Cpl. Coulter was listed as MIA after the Dieppe Raid.
