Regimental number: 53550. Sgt. Reference:  RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 1508 – 45  Item no. 88870, PDF: 1508-45.  Date of Birth 24/10/1891 at Wallaceburg, ON., the son of Hamilton and Mary Margaret (nee Miller) Carpenter. N of Kin: Margaret Rouman of Toledo, Ohio, USA. A single labourer living in Wallaceburg.

Member of 27th Regt. Attestation: 2/11/1914 in Chatham, ON. Listed as 5’ 4” Dark complexion, Brown eyes, Brown hair. His   He sailed from Halifax, NS. 18/04/15 aboard the S. S. Grampian. Disembarked in France at Boulogne 15/09/15 with the 18th Batt., CEF.  

 WN 02/11/16. Reported wounded in the right knee, thigh and back and was sent to Cardiff in Wales to recuperate.

Hamilton was promoted to Corporal 25/05/18 Hamilton was actually wounded in the Right shoulder, thigh and right knee all from shrapnel wounds received 26 July, 1916 at Ypres, Belgium, hit by part of a bomb. He received his at a Casualty Clearing Station at Poperingle, Belgium. This would begin a long process through the medical facilities of the Western Front. He was sent to Bramshott for X-ray of the shoulder which confirmed “Much destruction of bones )(radius lower third some callus formation”.   beginning at #30 General Hospital – Calais where he was admitted 27/07/16. He was reported operated on the remove the metal and be sutured 30/07/16. He was then sent back to England as follows:

East Leeds War Hospital 8/08/16 to 15/08/16 to repair shoulder. Bushy Park Convolescent Hospital 16/08/16. 22 General hospital – Camiers 2/10/18. He was promoted to the rank of Sargent 21/09/18 3rd West General Hospital – Cardiff 12/10/18.  Grenville hospital – Buxton 21/12/18. 3rd General Hospital Newport.

Canadian General Hospital – Liverpool and finally, #5 Canadian General hospital – Kirkdale 18/01/19. He was finally made “Medically Unit” for service 9/04/1919.

After returning to Canada he was reported at Queen Alexander Sanatorium in London, ON. writing his WILL leaving all to his wife Delina Carpenter at Box 699, Wallaceburg, ON. She received her Memorial Cross

Hamilton passed away 24/09/1921 in London, ON. and is buried at Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg, ON.  C. Brant 1/10/15
