Marvin enlisted with the Essex Scottish in November of 1940 and it was presumed he was still with the Essexes while fighting in Normandy.  

The CDN 5/09/44 reported that Pte. Burke had been wounded in action while in France 28 August, 1944. 

According to the CDN article, he was in hospital and the nature of his wounds was not reported at that time.
