The son William Henry and Ellen (Baillon).  Charles had two brothers who were also in service; Pte Bernie, RCE. and LAC Francis RCAF Postal Corps. Charles had a sister named Rita M., who served for two years with the RCAF Women’s Division.  His other siblings included Horlena, Mrs. Charles Hurly, Dorothy (Sasso), Nora (Potter), Bonnie (Gillet), Harry, William, and Fran.  Charles enlisted in July of 1940 and trained at Camp Bordon before going overseas in 1941. He saw action soon after D-Day, fighting in France, Belgium and Holland and Germany.

While in England he married Ivy (nee Tilley) of Nottingham, England and they had two children in England, Patrick and John, (Patrick was two years old when he arrived with his mother in Canada, John just a baby), she had been married to Charles for three years. A daughter Anne (Maynard) was also one of the family.  Charles was still serving with the RCOC in Germany when Ivy arrived in Chatham. CDN 7/05/45.

William was reported to have returned to Canada from overseas duty aboard the troopship “Pasteur”, expected to dock at Quebec City on the 22nd of September 1945.

Charles was discharged 3/11/1945.  After the war, Charles worked at the C&D Sugar company in Chatham and at the Southwestern Regional Centre, near Blenheim, ON.

Charles passed away 8/07/1992 at the age of 74 years and is buried with Ivy at the Maple Leaf Cemetery in  Chatham, ON.
