He enlisted in the Army. Leigh is reported to have been stationed at Stratford, Camp Borden, and Petawawa all in Ontario. He was discharged in London, ON.

He married Barbara Bain of Thamesville in July of 1950. They had two sons and a daughter, sadly Barbara passed away in 1980. A few years Leigh married Eva Gammage of Ridgetown. Leigh passed away in December of 2003.
