Cecil married Grace Belle (nee Cameron Kelly) CDN 8/08/38. They had three children and were living at 215 Park St., Chatham, ON. Cecil was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Anderson, formerly of Ireland. They had been settled in Chatham for approximately eleven years. Cecil had two sisters, Edna Dorothy and Gladys Mary, serving in the RCAF, and another brother serving with the Army in Italy. Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the Ontario Steel Co., and before that, the Department of Highway.

Cecil enlisted in December of 1943 at London, ON. Pte. Anderson trained at BTC 12., Chatham and Camp Ipperwash.

Pte. Anderson was seriously wounded 29/09/44 in France. The CDN Sep. 1944 reported that his wife received two official telegraphs. The first was to say that Pte. Anderson had “been wounded during enemy action in France”. This was followed up with the second message that reported “that he had been wounded during action had become seriously ill as a result of a shell fragment wound in the abdomen.” He was in a hospital in France.

Mrs. Anderson had received a letter from her husband dated 15 September in which he said “everything was going well and he was in Good health.”  In early July he was part of the Canadians who had reclaimed the city of Dieppe. He was later fighting in Belgium.

Reported returning from overseas on a 30 day leave for Christmas and New Years.  CDN 11/12/44. The CDN 18/12/44(P) reported that Cecil was “among the latest group of service men to arrive home from overseas”, and his arrival was just in time for Christmas.

Cecil arrived home from overseas in January of 1945 CDN18/01/45(P).
