DN26/01/44 reported of Bruce: “On December 19th, 1943, Pte. Adkin suffered machine gun wounds in his leg, during fierce fighting at a cross roads just outside Ortona in Italy. He was wounded while operating a Bren gun.”

“He arrived home last Saturday, after being thirteen months in England, Africa and Italy.”

“Returned to Westminster Hospital in London after weekend for treatment, but expects a thirty day furlough at home in the near future.”

DN19/04/44: “Has been removed to a Canadian Base hospital overseas and is progressing well. (…) Bruce’s wounds consist mainly of gunshot wounds to his legs and a broken ankle.”

 His sister, Lt. Maryon Adkin, “was a Registered Nurse in the American Nursing corps.”
